Getting to Know the Students

Hello Family and Friends,

It has been just a little over a week since we arrived and I have finally learned all the names of the 11 new students. Dan is close.

I have had time to sit and talk with a few girls individually and as you would expect some of their stories are heart wrenching. Some have been unemployed for 2 years, some fathers are absent, and several have at least one sibling in the US, most illegally. And for all, TLC is providing an opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to learn English and for many a chance to become entrepreneurs.

Mr. Dan is working very hard with the 5 graduating business students to develop good plans and projections for their businesses. We hope that most will qualify for some funding and several look very promising.

The sewing room is always busy with an assortment of blankets, embroidery and pillow cases. I have also added a preschool class for Micah and Abby, the director’s children in the mornings.

Saturday night the ladies made doughnuts, quite wonderful. Our Sunday service featured Dan preaching on Romans 3 and great music.

Tonight I will discuss an Ernest Hemingway short story with the book club group. I hope it will be a lovely evening of fellowship and learning. Also tonight the first group of prospective students for next quarter will be on campus for weekend interviews.

The kitchen is very busy as the students feed about 50 people every day without some of the most basic appliances found in US kitchens. That number will swell to 75 for the weekend.

We think of you all often and are thankful for your prayers and loving support.

Till next time,

Chris
